The Rixos Pera Istanbul
The Rixos Pera in Istanbul is a hotel that effortlessly exudes a world of amazing grandeur. From the moment you step inside this hotel you will be transported to a time of elegance and style from a bygone era. Built in 1876 and one of the oldest hotels in Istanbul, it has been immaculately maintained. The Rixos Pera cleverly marries this old world charm with modern touches (or necessities of the 21st century). The staff are outstanding and the service they provide is as immaculate as the hotel. If you have come to Istanbul and are wanting a little luxury, then the Rixos Pera is the place you will want to indulge.
The Rixos Pera is brilliantly located in Pera and is easily accessible to all the major attractions. A short walk from the hotel will have you at the vibrant and popular Istiklal Street. Or perhaps a longer walk, passing through the charming Beyoglu neighbourhood and you will find yourself crossing the bridge to Sultanahmet, the historic part of Istanbul.Upon arrival you will find the staff at the front reception desk are wonderfully helpful and friendly. The head of concierge is a wealth of knowledge for tourists, giving advice on many tours and places of interest in Istanbul. The door men are amazing and greet you with a smile, organise your transport, carry your cases, shopping bags and of course open doors for you.
The rooms
The Rixos Pera has 116 rooms and 21 suites, all of which are very spacious, something that is hard to come by in Istanbul or Europe for that matter. Each room has beautiful stately decor and the higher rooms have views over Pera and the Golden Horn.
I stayed in a deluxe room on the 6th floor which was incredibly spacious and had a view over Pera and the Golden Horn. The room was just exquisite and they really have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. The beds are super comfy and you have a choice of pillows. The bathrooms are of good size as are the showers (some are double the standard size). The lighting in the bathrooms are excellent, with night lights under the vanity that emits a soft non-intrusive glow. Toiletries are the premium L’Occitane range, the mini bar goes that extra mile with it’s items and a housekeeping service that is like no other. On my first night I was greeted by housekeeping with a gorgeous tray of three different types of tea to enjoy throughout my stay. Housekeeping will also deliver to your room nightly, some delectable cakes to enjoy with that tea. It’s those nice touches that make you feel special.
The room features are:
- Spacious room
- Queen Bed
- Divan
- Desk
- Couch
- Minibar
- Flat screen TV
- Power points everywhere in the room
- Free wifi which worked well
- Iron and ironing board
- Hairdryer
- Safe
- Bath robe & Slippers
- Room lighting has many options
- Air-conditioning
One of my favourite brands is L’Occitane and these products were complimentary.
The exquisite Tea service that I received on the first night I arrived, complimentary of housekeeping. Each night you are also given delicious little cakes to have with your tea.
The Restaurants
The Rixos Pera has three Restaurants – The Royal Cafe, Chapelle and Park Samdan. The Royal Cafe is a stunning area that lies just beyond front reception. With beautiful chandeliers and King Louis style furniture, it’s quite a posh place to sit and take your tea or lunch with friends. The Chapelle restaurant is a little escape from the busy city that has both indoor and outdoor areas. Once inside the courtyard of Chapelle, you will immediately feel it’s a retreat from the busy street outside. Park Samdan, is the rooftop restaurant that has magnificent views over Istanbul from the 7th floor terrace.
