Gardens By The Bay - A World Wonder

Gardens by the Bay is one of Singapore’s most visited tourist attraction and indeed this was one place I was really excited about visiting. Having seen many photos of these spectacular gardens, I had became quite fascinated by it’s imposing and futuristic look. So much so that it became the sole reason I was visiting Singapore.

Gardens by the Bay opened in 2011 and is set over 101 hectares of spectacular plant life, parks, water features and the futuristic vertical gardens. The most popular being the colourful SuperTree gardens, Flower Dome, Cloud forest and the OCBC Skyway.

Your entry ticket covers the whole grounds including the super tree grove, but if you would like to see the flower dome and the cloud forest, you are required to pay a little extra for entry to these places.

I had decided that the best time to visit was in the late afternoon so that I could see the gardens during the daylight but not to have to wait around too long for the evening. If you only have a short time to visit, then Gardens by the Bay is best seen at night time.

The grounds are really expansive, so if you arrive late afternoon, you will get to see most of the gardens in the daylight. I decided to explore the gardens and then come back to the Supertrees later on, once it was getting close to twilight. Once it’s dark the SuperTree grove lights up with an amazing light show that goes through various colours, it’s just so mesmerising to watch. There is a large grassed area which sees visitors sitting, having a picnic or lying back watching the show above. If you get the chance, pay the extra cost of walking along the OCBC skyway, it gives you a great view over the whole gardens.

The flower dome is the largest glass conservatory in the world and features some rare trees and plants from around the world.

The Cloud Forest

Inside the dome is a 35 metre man-made mountain and waterfall. The mountain has walkways that allow you to ‘climb’ to the top. Both theses domes are wonderfully cool, so if you are hot from walking around, these are quite the retreat.
